Meigas ( Whiches) in Galicia
From the groans of the pines in our vast forests to this coast of white sand that leans against the green of our mighty nature. Where high mountains fall over steep cliffs into the sea to contemplate mythological islands on the horizon. From the magic of the Queimada to the courage of the Percebeiros and the heroes of viticulture. Wherever you look, everything is magical in Galicia. And that can only be because the meigas have something to do with it.
Unfortunately, the witches in the historical account do not have a very good reputation. If it is true that (if we follow the purely objective trail of these numbers) it is mostly women who have certain knowledge, practices and wisdom. And also that they were often rejected, punished and persecuted out of ignorance or envy.
However, the problem with the meigas in Galicia is different. Although it is possible to date documents from Siglo XIII. referring to people using magic and condemning these practices with excommunication, the truth is that the term meiga has a positive, loving, and even lovable meaning here right now. Although the Meigas have played the same dark role with their local peculiarities that has been censored in the rest of Western Europe, they are characters that we Galicians are proud of, we celebrate and adore. With the due respect they deserve, of course.

The meaning of the meigas in Galicia is so good that we have adopted their name as an adjective for magic. And that is why we are called Routas Meigas, because all of our journeys are through enchanting places, with a certain charm and magic. Places where you can disconnect and let yourself be carried away by nature, history and our gastronomic wealth. Places to dream and recharge positive energy.
Everyone knows that Galicia is a land of the Meigas, and although many refuse to believe in theire existence, we can assure you that they exists.
